Earlier this month, your PMTU board met with representatives of NextEra Energy to discuss the proposed battery storage plant in Amber Township between Ludington and Scottville, and near the Pere Marquette River. During this meeting, NextEra gave a presentation about what was being proposed. That presentation can be seen below.
At this time, while the board is skeptical that this would not impact the Pere Marquette watershed, due to the lack of information at this time, we cannot make a recommendation about the proposed project. The board is still waiting to hear answers to the following questions:
1. We would like to see the site plan of the property.
2. We would like to have some clarification of the heating and cooling process for the plant.
3. We still need clarification on the “holding pond”. What is the purpose of holding stormwater? If it isn’t anything but rain, why would it need to be contained in a holding pond?
These questions were asked on October 7, 2026, and again on October 13, 2026, but we have not received a response. When we do, we will update you.
